Rare Iolite-Sunstone 57 mm Sphere with Stand

This beautiful sparkly violet crystal can be extracted from schists, gneisses, metamorphosed rocks, and quartz veins.  It consists of an orthorhombic crystal system.  It takes its official name from the Greek word which translates to “violet”.  Iolite-Sunstone is pleochroic and has the ability to transmit a variety of different colors at different times. Its most common colors are blue, gray, blue-green and violet-blue. This “double” gem specimen displays a mixture of an attractive bluish violet dichroic color with red hematite platelet inclusions in the iolite half, combined with an orange aventurescence effect from numerous tiny copper-colored hematite platelets in the sunstone half. It is known that Iolite has been used by shamans to enhance their ability to have clear visions. Some legends even say iolite strengthens eyesight. Other metaphysical beliefs hold that iolite promotes pure thoughts, intuition and self-acceptance. Iolite is associated with the zodiac signs Libra, Sagittarius and Taurus.
